My name is Karen Rowe and I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy. A New Jersey native, I received my undergraduate education at Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY) and attended graduate school at Arcadia University (Glenside, PA). I have been a licensed, practicing physical therapist for over 16 years, initially at Cleveland Clinic (Cleveland, OH), followed by Stanford Health Care (Palo Alto), working with hospitalized patients and primarily in the Intensive Care Units. The majority of my experience is with cardiopulmonary patients including heart and lung transplant recipients and patients who have a LVAD (left ventricular assist device), however I have experience with general surgery, medicine, trauma, orthopedic, and neurological patients as well. I have a special interest in the geriatric patient population and am a Certified Geriatric Care Professional. Since moving to California in 2015, I have also worked at Dominican Hospital (Santa Cruz) and Good Samaritan Hospital (San Jose). I have a current Basic Life Support Provider certification from the American Heart Association. I reside in the Santa Cruz Mountains with my husband and 2 young daughters.
While I still enjoy the high acuity of hospitalized patients, I also enjoy working closely with patients in their homes in order to regain independence, decrease risk of falling, ensure proper family training, assist with recommendations for durable medical equipment as needed, optimize wellness, and maximize functional status. I decided to create Moving Mountains Physical Therapy (MMPT) to provide home-based physical therapy services to the Santa Clara County and Santa Cruz County populations. While MMPT is available to anyone, it is ideal for patients who may have exhausted insurance benefits but are still interested in working toward specific goals, while preferring to do so at home rather than driving to an outpatient setting. As a resident of the Santa Cruz Mountains, I also have a special interest in mountain neighbors who may find it challenging to go "over the hill" on Highway 17 to find care or in lieu of health care providers who, in turn, prefer not to go deep into twisty, mudslide-prone, mountain roads!
